DATES & SCHEDULES

SVCIC will take place March 2008 at UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

A few days before the competition each team will be emailed four or five real business plans of socially- or sustainably-minded entrepreneurs that are currently seeking venture capital funding. Teams will have the opportunity to become familiar with the business plans, conduct research, and make preliminary assessments prior to arriving in Chapel Hill

Day 1:
On Friday afternoon, teams act as venture capitalists by watching each entrepreneur's live pitch and conducting 15-minute private interviews with each entrepreneur. Teams then return to their hotel or use UNC Kenan-Flagler facilities to perform their analyses and prepare deliverables, which include a written executive summary, term sheet, and a 6 minute PowerPoint presentation.

Day 2:
On Saturday morning, teams present their investment recommendation to a panel of real venture capitalists who will challenge the team's recommendations in a 10-minute Q&A session. Teams are judged on their ability to identify and mitigate risk, their VC industry knowledge, application of triple-bottom line frameworks, communications, and teamwork. The teams that perform the best along these dimensions, along with the team that most impress the entrepreneurs, receive cash prizes. Each team receives detailed performance feedback from the judges.
